Cyclical poetry

Photo groupe 3_edited.jpg

The improvisation duo, born at the heart of the Musikwohnhaus in Basel, celebrates a rediscovered harmony between the cyclical and the organic. United by a shared admiration for the work of Jean Tinguely, the two artists explore the subtle dance between repetition and variation. In a mechanical world often perceived as rigid and mineral, they seek to breathe organic life into it through ever-evolving loops and musical patterns.

Using improvisation as a creative foundation, the duo has developed its own artistic language, built around simple yet deeply meaningful concepts. Each performance becomes a unique experience, born from spontaneity and real-time interaction between the two musicians. Within this cyclical mechanism, motifs warp, expand, or contract—like living organisms in an ecosystem in constant mutation.

The duo offers a new way of perceiving repetition. Far from being monotonous redundancy, repetition becomes a canvas on which subtle variations are drawn, bringing emotional depth and a rich sense of texture to the whole.

Their work goes beyond sound experimentation: it is also a philosophical quest. Through their music, they question the coexistence of structure and chaos, order and unpredictability—an approach that echoes the aesthetic and conceptual inquiries of their idol, Jean Tinguely.

As a percussionist, she is regularly invited to take part in creation-driven projects in Switzerland and across Europe, notably with Theater Basel, Eklekto (Geneva), the Munich Biennale for Contemporary Music Theatre, soyuz21 (Zurich), Opus 333 (Paris), Compagnie iF (Geneva), Alice Tanzt (Olten), among others. She has collaborated with many renowned composers, including Stefan Prins, Georges Aperghis, Martin Matalon, Vinko Globokar, Ondřej Adámek, Alexandre Babel, Jean-Pierre Drouet, Andreas Eduardo Frank, Nicolas Bolens, Arturo Corrales, Anda Kryeziu, Kevin Juillerat, Jacques Demierre, Sébastien Roux, and many more. She has led several thematic workshops (music theatre, sound objects, graphic scores) for children, teenagers, and adults, and was invited to develop the Hörminute / Minute sonore project in French-speaking Switzerland for the Basel-based organization Zuhören Schweiz. Jeanne is particularly interested in exploring the boundaries between disciplines and aesthetics, as well as the creative processes that emerge from encounters—between artists, and with audiences.

Jeanne Larrouturou is a French percussionist who has been active in Switzerland since 2011. After completing a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in music education in Geneva, followed by a specialized Master’s in contemporary music in Basel, she has developed her work as a performer, creator, and organizer across a wide range of chamber and interdisciplinary contemporary music projects, both in French-speaking and German-speaking Switzerland. Since 2011, she has been a member of Ensemble Batida (piano and percussion), known for its original concert concepts developed in Geneva and presented in Switzerland and abroad. She is a co-founder of the trio Stop, Drop, and Roll (music theatre, Basel) and of Ensemble Caravelle (staged musical forms, Geneva), and she joined the Concept Store Quartet (contemporary creation, Basel) in 2022. Since 2019, she has co-directed the experimental series Fracanaüm in Lausanne with Kevin Juillerat, and in 2024 she joined the programming team of the Festival of Rümlingen. In 2023, she created her first sound performance and object-theatre piece, Objets trouvés #1, and she is currently pursuing her work in composition, both collectively and as a solo artist.

Charley Rose works at the crossroads of rock, free jazz, and contemporary jazz, with a strong interest in 20th-century music—especially the works of Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Ligeti. Driven by these eclectic influences, he founded the experimental Larchey Zore Quartet, dedicated to a bold exploration of extreme music. In 2016, he formed the Charley Rose Trio alongside Enzo Carniel and Ariel Tessier. Their first album was released in 2018 on the Déluge label, followed by a second record in November 2023. Winners of Jazz Migration #7, the trio has performed at numerous festivals in France and across Europe.

At the same time, Charley is co-leader of the Perceptions Trio, an adventurous ensemble in which he explores the possibilities of effect pedals, using chance as an additional element of improvisation. Their album, released in February 2025, received glowing reviews, including a 4-star rating from the renowned magazine DownBeat.

His solo project, Resonance of Sensation, due for release in late 2024, explores the relationship between painting and music. Inspired by Gilles Deleuze’s The Logic of Sensation, the work offers a musical exploration of Francis Bacon’s pictorial universe.

In 2025, he launches The Vibrant Machines, a living tribute to Dada sculptor Jean Tinguely, bringing together artists such as Samuel Blaser, Lisette Spinnler, Domenic Landolf, Jeanne Larrouturou, and Akil Djan.

Over the years, Charley Rose has performed as both a leader and sideman at numerous festivals across four continents, affirming his presence on the international music scene.
